Karneval

Genre: Action, Adventure, Comedy, Fantasy, Josei

Nai searches for someone important to him, with only an abandoned bracelet as a clue. Gareki steals and pick-pockets to get by from day to day. The two meet in a strange mansion where they are set-up, and soon become wanted criminals by military security operatives. When Nai and Gareki find themselves desperate in a hopeless predicament, they encounter none other than the country’s most powerful defense organization – “Circus”!!

^ And that’s the summary, not written by me obviously.
I somehow stumbled upon this manga, after seeing a few of the manga’s illustrations posted on a picture-sharing website.
So, it’s about a boy called Nai who searches for an important person (which he regards as a brother). He then meets a thief named Gareki, and then from that fated meeting on, both of them go on an adventure to find Nai’s brother.
Although it might seem like just another adventure manga, it actually has a rather original plot that makes it different from other josei manga. (Like how it connects a circus to an organization.)
The character cast in Karneval is very unique. Nai isn’t your typical main character. He is practically clueless about the outside world, but his sense of hearing is different from others. And then we have Gareki, a young thief who gets by robbing rich people’s mansions. Despite his cold and somewhat arrogant attitude, he’s actually gentle and caring on the inside.
There are also more interesting characters, but so far, I’ve not come to hate or dislike any of the characters in this manga.
Another reason why I like this manga….is because of the art style. The character designs, clothes, backgrounds and the manga illustrations are all beautiful.
Karneval also has it’s comedic moments which I find myself laughing out loud at, sometimes it has a mysterious feel to it, like the mystery shrouded around Nai’s past.

If you tilt your head a bit, you might see a hint of shounen-ai...

But seriously, their relationship with each other is just friends.

Even though I’ve only read 13 chapters that are scanalated, it has become one of my favorite josei manga that I’ve read so far.
….If you read it, you might enjoy it as much as I did.
Also, Gareki is awesome. And Nai ish moe.
